Hello. This web page is designed to help you learn the basics of the world-renowned game of chess. Chess is a two-player game, and one of the earliest developed games that is still played worldwide, by over 600 million people worldwide today. Chess is played on a with alternating colored squares (most commonly black and white) spanning 8 squares by 8 squares across. The object of the game is to checkmate the king, meaning the most valuable piece of the opponent is "defeated". Each player starts with 16 pieces, and plays until the game ends.
